Over the past few years, I have greatly enjoyed working within this project as co-chair of Work Package 2: The Correct Diagnosis of MIC. Together with 122 partners from both industry and research institutions, we have organised activities, shared knowledge and developed new insights. The project was coordinated by BAM (Bundesanstalt für Materialforschung und -prüfung) and co-funded by the European COST programme.

The aim of EuroMIC was to combine existing knowledge within companies and research institutions, forge new links and develop practical tools to better identify, understand and manage MIC.

At Microbial Analysis, we are keen to contribute to the dissemination of knowledge about MIC. In practice, we see that MIC is still often an unknown and underestimated phenomenon, even though its impact on critical infrastructure, for example, can be significant.

The end result, produced in collaboration with all the chairs and co-chairs, is a magnificent and accessible book. Chapter 7 focuses on practical experiences — partly based on the work carried out within EuroMIC and supplemented by my own experiences in the field.
